First 5 Madera County

A family-first redesign for a California children and families commission. Services are two taps away, in English and Spanish, and built for phones.

This is an unsolicited concept. Imar Labs is not affiliated with First 5 Madera County, was not engaged by them, and nothing here reflects their plans or performance.

The problem

A county commission site has two audiences that want opposite things. A parent wants to know what help exists and how to get it, today. A partner or member of the public wants the meeting calendar, the agenda and the packet. Serve one well and you usually bury the other.

What we built

The concept resolves that split in the navigation rather than in a compromise. Help for families is the primary path from the hero; public meetings get their own persistent button, so the statutory audience never has to hunt and never crowds the parent.

  • Spanish is a first-class toggle in the header, not a translate widget bolted to the corner — the navigation, hero and body all switch.
  • Every service route is reachable in two taps from the homepage, sized for a phone first.
  • The funding model is explained in plain language, because "where does this money come from" is the question a public agency gets asked most.
  • Meeting materials live on one page with a clear next-meeting card, rather than as a list of dated links.

Screens

The same homepage in Spanish — Habla. Lee. Canta. — with the whole navigation, hero and body copy switched, not just a translate widget. The homepage on a phone: the headline stacks, and the two primary actions sit within thumb reach above the fold.
